Dr. Marc Hamoir

Marc Hamoir obtained his BSc (1974) and MD (1978) from the Medical School of the Université catholique de Louvain, Belgium. Subsequently, Professor Hamoir became board certified in Otolaryngology (1982) and in Head and Neck Surgery (1986). He held a Fellowship in Head and Neck Surgery at the Cliniques Universitaires Saint-Luc, Brussels, at MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houson, Texas, USA and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New -York, New -York, USA . Professor Hamoir went on to hold two consecutive positions as Assistant Professor (1986–1992) and Associate Professor (1992–1997), in Head and Neck Surgery at the Cliniques Universitaires Saint- Luc, Brussels. Since 1998, he is appointed Deputy Chairman at the same institute. Professor Hamoir currently holds three parallel appointments as, Full Professor at the Université catholique de Louvain, Head of the Department of Head and Neck Surgery, and Chairman of the Executive Board of Directors, at the Cancer Center, Cliniques Universitaires Saint-Luc. He has been honoured with four prestigious awards, including the Saint-Luc Foundation Scholarship in 1998. In 2009, he was elected as Ordinary Member of the Royal Belgian Academy of Medicine. Since 2012, he is member of the board of directors at the Belgian Fundation against Cancer. Professor Hamoir is strongly committed to teaching medicine to undergraduates and postgraduates at the Cliniques Universitaires Saint-Luc, and also internationally. He is a scientific reviewer, an editorial and advisory board member for 13 national and international journals and committees. Professor Hamoir is a member of 11 national and international societies. He has an extensive publication record, as the author of more than 230 manuscripts, book chapters, and report articles.
